Research Needs in Emerging Travel Survey Issues

In the past few years, a number of new issues for travel surveys have arisen, and old issues have emerged with increased importance. These include methods issues in such areas as GPS surveys, web-based surveys, freight vehicle and commodity surveys, and Stated Choice surveys. Procedures for ensuring quality and protection of privacy of respondents have not been developed for most of these areas, and there are many unknowns in the conduct of such surveys. There are also issues relating to the conduct of travel surveys in the developing countries of the world. This second part of the conference is intended to explore and identify areas of research needs in the design of future travel surveys.
